Judgements

I know that people judge me and that is fine. It is normal happening in every ones life. While we may try not to do it we still do.

In the last couple years I realized how much judgement comes upon me because my husband is a doctor. Something about the status of being a 'Doctors Wife' makes me a snob that lives in a mansion with a maid and gardeners and a nanny (if we had kids). This is something that has haunted me.

I get where the stereotype comes from. I've seen it myself. But I don't fit in with this group... In fact I've been rejected by them.

So, I try not to tell people that my husband is a doctor. Not to insult him. (I think he is a VERY smart person, and he impresses me everyday with how hard he works and studies.) But so that people get to know me as a "Normal" person.

Some people even still after getting to know me, as a person not a status, still can't leave the 'her husband is a doctor' statement behind, and use it in every chance they get. It is embarrassing. Cant you say anything else??? For example instead of :

"This is Jenny. Her husband is a surgeon." - (yes this was an exact quote)

I would like to hear something like:

"This is Jenny. She is in nursing school and will be finishing soon." Or "Her favorite color is green" or even "She's a Mormon"

Last night I worked the late unit secretary position. I am orienting so I was with the other unit secretary.
I found out that most people on my unit know Jared is a doctor. So when the unit secretary introduced me to someone else as "This is Jenny. She will be a nurse in December but she won't be working long because her husband is a doctor" I knew there were a lot of people on the unit that had passed many of the same judgements on me.

I know that I am a shy person at first. It's just how I am, but I have found this has made me appear "snobby" to others. It;s just sad and frustrating.

So then when the unit secretary asked "what is it like being married to a doctor" I was delighted.
I replied that I don't see him in a professional light, all I see is the man I married. A normal funny, good lookin' man. Who once asked me if I ever needed sutures if I would let him do it. I said no. Sutures are for the hospital, for doctors to do. (He was just a little insulted-haha!)- but it was truly how I felt about him and his 'doctor status'. It doesn't exist to me.

I told the unit secretary that many people pass judgments about who I am before they know me, so I try not to tell people his profession.

Later that night when we were leaving for home, the unit secretary said to me, "You know how you said that people pass judegments on you because of your husband before they even know you? Well I am guilty of that, and I'm sorry. As I have spent time with you I found that you are a very nice person, nothing like I thought before I knew you."

It really made my day.

I'm glad that I can take back the stereotype upon myself one person at a time. But until I get to know someone they will think jealous, snobby thoughts about me and my 'super lax lifestyle' (that really involves school full time, and 3 part time jobs, and no we don't have a maid- not that I dont want one- who doesn't?)

Oh well, what do you do other than deal.

Swimming

I am very humble when it comes to swimming.

As in at the beginning of this summer I stunk at swimming.... Like... really bad.

Hunsaker's just don't swim, they never have.

So when Jared started to train for his Tri, I started Trying to swim. I'm glad that Jared was not mean or judgeing of my bad swimming, and taught me EVERYTHING that I needed to know.

People would see Jared teaching me how to swim, and then see him swim really well and fast and they would ask Jared questions. It was funny, but he does know his stuff.

So I started swimming at the end of June. I could get about 50 meters and then I was exhausted and out of breath.
But Jared worked with me, and encouraged me. Told me I would find my stride and speed and I would get my form down.

Slowly I started to get form. Then I went 100 meters in a row. I was so excited.

Then I went 400 in a row, out of no where!

I did that for a couple weeks. 400 to 500 meters in a row, and then about 300 meters more not consecutively.

But last night was the last night we could swim before the pool closed for the season.

I swam 1200 meters in a row! That's 3/4 of a mile! I was so proud of myself! I am not fast, but I can swim! HOORAY!

Jared's Sprint Tri

Jared participated in a local sprint Triathlon at the beginning of the month. I was so proud of him. The sprint tri was a 800meter swim, 12 mile bike, and a 5k run.

It was his first triathlon, and guess what?! He was the first person to start the swim! (No pressure) He did great! and finished the swim in under 12 minutes. (Which I think is personally amazing! It takes me a little under 12 minutes to do just half of that!)

I was so proud of my Mountain biking man! He was the only person there that didn't have a fancy road bike, but he pushed that bike and finished well! (even for riding on the so called 'brick')

AND then ran to the finish!

I really am so proud of him.

IP

The reason we flew out to Utah 2 weeks ago was to hang with Jared's family in Island Park.

It was so nice to take the vacation and was great (other than the flight there).

I asked Jared for a huge favor the morning that we drove from Salt Lake to Island Park.

... That favor was to make a quick stop in Tremonton, Utah where my grandpa Hunsaker used to live.

I was going off memory on where to turn and I found their old house right off the bat. Good memories.

Then we set out to see the cemetery. This was harder for me to remember exactly where it was. I did know that it was on the left side of the street. Luckily for me there was a big sign that read "Tremonton Cemetery" (ok so it wasn't really big, but it was big for a small town)

We then visited my grandma and grandpa Hunsaker's grave- something I always wanted to do while I lived in Utah, but never had the guts to go alone.

Boy, I miss them. Tons of great memories. I was so glad that we got to go. A big thanks to Jared for taking some time away from seeing his family to see mine.

SO, we got up to Island Park without any problems and just hung out with everyone. We went and visited a battle site for the Nez Perce tribe- and I'm sure there WERE arrowheads out there... even though it was a battle with rifles.

We tubed down the river, went on runs and bike rides, went to plays, visited west Yellowstone on the quads (and of course ate ice cream), and played games and watch movies til late.

It was a very nice, relaxing vacation and I'm really glad we got to go, but super sad that we had to leave (especially when we found out later we could have gotten there 2 days earlier, but that's how it goes)

(sorry I don't have any more pictures of IP)

Kitchen

Yesterday I painted the kitchen.

Just decided it needed to be done and I was the one to do it.

Here are some (kinda) before pictures.

(I started cutting on the edged when I thought it would be good to have a 'before picture')

Here are the after pictures. (it is a grey blue color)

I love it.

The Cookie and a Burned Bridge

I feel that I am a (somewhat) forgiving and (mostly) patient person.

With that said, Let me tell you why we will not be flying with Frontier any time soon.

We were flying to Utah from Louisville with a short (30min) stop in Colorado. Well we got to Colorado 25 mins early. (I know crazy huh?) So we have an hour we bum around and do whatever. Then we get on the plane, drive out to the runway just to have the captain say “theres a warning light going off so we are going to go back to the gate.” We go to the gate and sit for a while, just to be “De-boarded” from the plane.

They don’t know when the plane will be fixed. 3 hours later we are getting back on the plane. A stewardess gets fairly frank with Jared about turning his Ipad off so we can "finally" take off. (like the ipad was the reason we were 3 hours late… and like it even matters.) So we take off.

So to recap my feelings of the experience thus far…
I do not mind waiting for a plane. I want to fly on a safe plane and things like this happen. I get upset sometimes when the flight is delayed and I have a time schedule, but our time schedule (this time) was not super tight so I was for the most part, just annoyed that yet again I am stuck in an airport.

So what ruined my experience you may ask?

The cookies.

On Frontier they give out “Fresh, warm cookies”. AWESOME. I love cookies, and it’s better than nothing. So when the stewardess came to Jared and I and asked if I would like a cookie I say. “Yes”. She says again... “Do you want a cookie?”

Again, I say “Yes” just a bit louder.

She then starts fumbling and walks away to get a new pan of cookies which is fine because the not smashed ones are better.

She then comes to me again and says, “Do you want a cookie?”

At this point I’m wondering if she is half deaf, I say much louder, “YES”.

Then she walks away asking others if they want MY COOKIE. MINE.

No cookie for me. I was mad.

Luckily I have a husband that loves me and was not happy at the stewardess for how rude she was to him before. So yet again, Jared saved the day and yelled across the plane that I do want a cookie, which really was kinda embarrassing, but it made me feel better, and I got a cookie. But at that point I wanted to crush it and smash it in to the carpet. (although I didn't- see I'm just too nice.)

To conclude this saga: I will not be flying with Frontier any time soon as they have burned their bridge.

I get the delays because of weather and mechanical stuff. But I want my cookie.

-Delta lost me also… they forgot to give me a drink that I asked for… totally skipped JUST my side of the row. How rude. I want my free drink (that I really paid up the butt for).

Good bye Frontier and Delta.

Jared Birthday

This last Monday was Jared's Birthday. He turned 31.

The day went well and he was able to sleep in AND to come home early. (but he was on call the night before and was up all night)
When he woke up that morning I asked him (again) what he would like for his Birthday dinner.

He said, "what really sounds good right now is taco bell with a sonic shake and a dairy queen ice cream cake."

So fast food night it was.

We also had James and Sydney over and opened presents. James and Sydney gave Jared some measuring cups he thought were so cool. (Now to get him to cook with them...)

And since I already had given him Max, per his begging to have it early. I gave him a cheap little present... that he ended up loving, and that is MORE fun that Max... if that is possible. (TAKE THAT MAX!) I gave him a little remote controlled helicopter.

And the best part is that it worked, and worked well.

(and it drives the dog crazy)

Happy Birthday to my cute little old man!
