As most whom read this blog do not know (because you don't live in the east) we had some rather large strong storms this last week.
And me being the nerd that I am knew they were coming for about a week before. (love you weather.com!!)
there were the normal warnings... severe thunderstorm, flood warning. Normal. Well, it was a not so normal early morning (about 4:30a) when I received a text message from the school. (they have an emergency text message system to inform students of snow days, robberies near campus, etc). The message said, "A Tornado Warning has been issured for Jefferson County. Please seek shelter in a safe location."
I knew that it was windy and raining that night so I just knew I would be tossing and turning, but when this text came I really paid attention... the wind was really loud this time... but Jefferson County doesn't mean anything is necessarily near by, so I cuddled up to Jared and was scared.
The storm finally passed and we didn't sleep anymore because by the time it was quiet enough to sleep Jared's alarm went off. (boo)
Later that day I heard that there were 3 tornados that touched the ground. An EF-1, EF-2, and and EF-3. (the bigger the number the stronger) I looked at the locations... and what do you know....
This baby tornado (EF-1) crossed the river from Indiana to Kentucky... prospect, KY. And the last time I checked we live in prospect, Ky, but in a location that is not 'central'. (luckily)
Let me show you....
The path of the tornado and our home.

I was told that the tornado lifted only a mile from our house. (I think it was just a little further... and it was 100 yards wide - YIKES!)
We didn't have any damage - and the worse thing that happened was the loss of some sleep and a tipped dog house.
However many branches were broken in other places and a barn a mile away from us was destroyed. (a mile the opposite direction of the tornado) I'm pretty sure there were no injuries from any of the tornadoes. But it scared the crud out of me, I would have hid in my safe place if I would have known how close it was.
AND to make things even better... the tornado sirens were not set off. WOOPS! Someone is in trouble for that minor mistake, I'm sure.
What an early start to tornado season. Lets hope this is not a predictor for the future.
